How to create a weighted average?

Hi, I am trying to create a grade book spreadsheet. The children will score a level from 1 - 5 in each subject. I am however running into a problem as far as one foreign language is concerned. Here - each strand of the subject (oracy, reading and writing) is weighted. Oracy accounts for 70% of the final (1-5) level, and reading and writing 15% apiece. To get a level for this subject I need a weighted average! How?!? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I am ready to pull my hair apart in frustration. Everytime I create borders to my selection in the table, specify style, line width, colours etc. and then when I click elsewhere on the sheet, the border invariably disappears. I am not able to make the border permanent. What am I missing here? Need help please.

iWork Numbers Borders

Thanks Michael for the vidio.

I neglected to tell you that I did select the entire table, then apply the "Inside Borders" selection and the borders appeared. I also selected "Apply Border Selection" from the "Borders" menu. Then if I click anywhere within the table or outside of the table the borders disappear. Also after applying the borders and then going to print the borders do not print. I even went so far to reload the Numbers application from disc.

Thanks again for the updated video. I noticed the step that I was not doing - after selecting the border type, select the line type. That did the trick.

I have a PO sheet, and the last column is the total of the line item (Qty*Unit=Total) the total is showing "$0.00" when there is no items populating the cells. How do I make that "$0.00" not show?

Sorry for the bad English, but normally I speak dutch, so... I have a question;

Is it possible, in numbers, to create a list, for example

1001 computer
1002 software
1003 supply
1004 Machines
1005 goodwill
1006 credit
1007 sell
etc, etc, ....
and then use these numbers in another table (on another page) where it grabs a value an puts that value in a third table (again on another page)

for example I have a table with some info an a amount

where the .... are I now want to put the code so it will look like

so this should result in another table which should look like

Sometimes I like to drop the lowest grade for my students...or I may not make up a test when a student has been absent. When I leave a space blank on the grade book, it is calculated as a zero percent and brings the final grade down to failing. How can I prevent this from happening?

Using hours:minutes in Numbers

I need to create a timesheet that will display my time worked in 00:00 format. I had this all worked out in Excel, and moved it to Numbers, which shows errors.

Biggest problem is the cell where the time is added together, for a total time for the week. I get an error, saying that "The formula's arguments can only include one date value"

I have used the duration function, entering 24 hours. I am entering my time as 00:00.

I have looked for a template on the web that has a similar layout, but they all display the time as 0h0m.

Please help!

Hi I am using Numbers 09 to get a quotation table together, and I have hit upon a snag. I need to enter the (opening width) of something in one field and then I need a (qty of doors) answer from that dimension can any one help... I have set parameters for the dimensions and number of doors in simple speak I need the following (IF THE OPENING WIDTH IS BETWEEN 0mm-and-2133mm YOU WILL NEED A MINIMUM OF 2 DOORS).

Navigation Tabs in Numbers layout - Rephrasing

Rephrasing my early question:

In iPad Numbers demo a "Wildcats Soccer Team" is shown, with navigation tabs (Players, Statistics, Budget, +) at the top. See http://images.apple.com/ipad/features/images/ipad_zoomerlay_numbers_port_20100225.jpg

The available "Team Organization" template in Template Chooser-Personal DOES NOT HAVE TABS or ny option to add them.

Somewhere Apple says " Navigate your document with ease using tabs to jump from one sheet to another." but no further explanation.

I am trying to do a formula in Numbers 08 that will return a value based on a letter. For example if cell A2 has the letter A in it then cell B2 would have $10, or if A2 had the letter B in it then B2 would have $20 etc. I need to be able to enter about 10 different code letters and have my B2 cell show the corresponding dollar value. Is this possible?

Using Numbers to put credit card charges into accounting categories

I am currently going thru my credit card statement and adding up all of the charges by categories so I can enter the charges into MYOB Accountedge - this is to keep my accounting correct and I pay the credit card from AccountEdge. I'm thinking that a pencil and calculator is so 1980. Maybe Numbers can be used?

I made a very simple template and listed the expense categories going down the left and have each row showing a total on the far right. Then all of the totals are added up to a grand total on the bottom. If I do it right, I enter each charge manually in the correct category and Numbers does the math for me.

But I have a hunch that I'm not doing it the best way. This is my first time really using Numbers or any spreadsheet. I'm afraid that printing this out can be a real pain. For example if I enter each auto fuel charge for the month the spreadsheet will have to get very wide. Printing will be a challenge.

Does anyone have suggestions? Has anyone made a template to consolidate their credit card charges by category? This has to be a common task that someone has figured out. I hate reading manuals...

I'm trying to use the "event planner" template, but it will not let me change the fields! I can delete, but not add new. If i hightlight and type, I click on the next field, and the old info comes back. It has to be that easy, right? So is there just something wrong with my mac? I'm ready to toss it! HELP!!!

Numbers: Highlighting Weekends on a Chart

I have a table in Numbers with 2 columns: Date and Sales.

I've created a line chart from this table, with the dates along the bottom and the sales down the side.

How can I highlight which sales sit on a weekend. Ideally I'd like the background to be colored differently for weekend date columns, however I would settle for a different colored data point.
